Clarification: Masks in health care facilities

May 19, 2021

A new order from Texas Governor Greg Abbott that specifically prohibits “government entities” and school districts from mandating masks likely does not affect a privately-owned and operated physician practice’s ability to continue requiring masks and other precautions.

The governor’s order does specifically allow government-owned or -operated hospitals to set masking mandates and policies as they deem appropriate. At this time, the CDC infection control recommendations for healthcare providers still recommend masking, along with additional infection control measures.
