TMB issues statement on COVID-19 treatments

August 3, 2020

Last week, the Texas Medical Board (TMB) issued a statement about the “sometimes conflicting information being published regarding COVID-19.”

The July 31 statement urges physicians to use caution regarding unfounded treatments for COVID-19; refers physicians to the TMB rules on complementary and alternative medicine; and discusses how the TMB will handle complaints around this issue.

“Hopefully our press release clears up any misconceptions on what is appropriate and inappropriate around claims made for cures of certain diseases. It also sets clear what our rules are for treatment and disclosure to patients of alternative or unproven means of treatment,” said TMB President Sherif Zaafran, MD on Twitter.
